Agri Training Academy

If you want to start a career in farming – this is the first step.

If you’re a school leaver, or a young person wanting to move into the agricultural sector – you start here at the Agri Training Academy.

What is the Agri Training Academy?

  • It’s where we train tomorrow’s farmers today!
  • A 13-day live-in training programme which delivers real outcomes and skills across the basics of working in the agricultural industry
  • It’s an intensive two week multi-activity programme to give you the skills and knowledge to start your Diploma in Agriculture
  • It’s based at our training facility at Winchmore Research Station (mid-Canterbury) and includes all your accommodation and meals (and unlimited wi-fi!).
  • At the end of the training – you will have the skills and knowledge to move into paid employment in your farm placement job where you will continue your training.

Here are some of the other cool benefits of the Academy:

  • You make lifelong friends! You’ll be with a group of young people all starting out in a rural career. As a cohort, you’ll get the opportunity to stay connected throughout your Diploma.
  • We bring in some of the best brains in farming so you can hook into what they know.
  • At the end of this time you will be ready to work, have gained some core skills and more importantly – core attitudes which will make you useful to a farmer from day one!

Our promise to you

It doesn’t matter if you grew up in Epsom or Outram, with the right attitude we can develop your career in the primary sector.

  • 100% of our students are earning while learning – we’ll place you into a job with one of our Partner Farmers.
  • When you are out working in your farm placement – you’ll have our full support every step of the way. Your success is also ours and we’re in this together!
  • When you graduate, you’ll have a trade-relevant Diploma and be ready to take your pick of farming careers.

Recognising your prior experience

Agri Training knows experience counts when it comes to gaining a qualification. Maybe you grew up on a farm, maybe you have worked in a rural space before – we reward you for the stuff you already know.

At the end of week one, all trainees are put through our  RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) assessment system and those who have previous skill and knowledge may be able to head straight to their farm placement.

There we get on with giving you experience and skill in the things you don’t know. We call this training to the gaps.
