Diploma in Arable - At A Glance

The Diploma in Arable is designed to give students the foundation to build their agri-business career and the opportunity to specialise in farm business management and crop production.  Students will have a sound knowledge of all the factors driving the New Zealand’s arable industry. It involves cultivation through to harvest, environmental sustainability and profitability along with livestock production.

Crop Production Soil preparation, nutrient requirements, planning for planting, water management, pests and diseases, harvest management, storage
Health and Safety Knowledge of relevant legislation and industry best practice, skills and training on all aspects to ensure the safety of self and others, knowledge of procedures and processes to ensure compliance
Sustainability, Environmental Best Practice Understanding of Resource Management Act 1991 which leads to the comprehension of reducing farming’s impact on soil and water and riparian protection. This unit of study also includes a focus on sustainable irrigation, agrichemical and nutrient usage plus keeping relevant records/documentation.
Planning and Recording Understanding markets, farm management planning, bench marking, production systems, keeping accurate records, and analysis
Vehicle Operation & Maintenance A comprehensive programme covering all common vehicles and plant, their operation and maintenance. Recognition of occupational health and safety appropriate equipment.

Diploma in Dairy Production - At A Glance

The Diploma in Dairy Production gives students the foundation, the knowledge and the skills to successfully progress to managing a dairy farm as a profitable business enterprise. It involves understanding and mastering critical farm management areas such as nutrition and feeding, reproductive performance, young stock rearing, animal health and welfare, economic, financial, HR and environmental management.

Animal Production & Welfare Analysis and management of production systems, health and welfare of all stock classes, stockmanship and reproduction
Pasture Production & Management Including recording and analysing pasture growth, management of nutrients and fertility, feed budgeting, and benchmarking

Diploma in Sheep & Beef and Deer - At A Glance

The Diploma in Sheep, Beef, and Deer provide students with the foundation knowledge to pursue successful careers across the Sheep, Beef and Deer sector. 

Students will learn first-hand hand about monitoring and feeding livestock, animal health and welfare, breeding programmes, buying and selling of livestock, and the maintenance of the farm facilities, machinery and structures.

It involves integrating students to develop a greater understanding of farm operations and encompasses practical and technical skills.
